Frozen yogurt - our favorite frozen treat this year
This recipe is incredibly versatile, which is exactly why we love it. At its core, you simply mix together dairy products. This time I made it extra special by adding honey, creating a lovely honey-yogurt frozen treat. You can add fresh fruit, nuts, or spices to the base anytime, creating a brand-new flavor every time. Plus, you don't need any special equipment; if you don't have an ice cream maker, I'll also show you an alternative preparation method — it's really simple.
Top 5 tips and tricks
Follow these five tips to master the recipe at home.
- Good ingredients, good food. The quality of the final result depends on the quality of the ingredients. Organic yogurt, cream, kefir, and quark deliver a fuller, cleaner, and creamier flavor without unnecessary additives.
- Add honey gradually — you can use less. Floral honey doesn't just sweeten — it adds a depth of flavor that refined sugar simply can't match. If you prefer a less sweet treat, reduce the amount of honey slightly; the frozen mixture will still be plenty creamy thanks to the quark and cream.
- Mix well before freezing. The ingredients need to be perfectly combined before the container goes into the freezer. This is the only way to achieve an even texture without ice crystals forming during freezing.
- Use an ice cream maker if you have one. An ice cream maker (such as a Ninja Creami) with a "frozen yogurt" setting delivers the creamiest, most ice-cream-like texture. If you don't have one, cut the frozen mixture into four pieces and pulse them in a food processor — the result is surprisingly similar.
- Experiment with mix-ins. The base recipe is a great starting point for your own combinations — add fresh berries, chocolate chips, nuts, or a pinch of cinnamon. Every time, you'll get a fresh new flavor from the same base.
Freezing
Store Honey Frozen Yogurt in a sealed container to prevent it from absorbing odors from other foods in the freezer. It will keep in the freezer for up to 1 month.
Before serving again, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes so it becomes creamy again.
