Origin
Brigadeiro is a famous dessert well known in Portugal and Brazil. You can find these delicious chocolate balls covered in sprinkles on every market in Porto, and you can also easily make them from scratch in your home. We have a simple recipe for Brigadeiros on our blog, too. Brigadeiro tart isn't something you will find in every market or shop, but we ate an amazing one in a small bakery in Porto, and that fabulous dessert inspired today's recipe.
Esential ingredients
This Brigadeiro Tart is made of two layers. The first layer is the homemade cookie cocoa crust. The second layer is a gorgeous mixture of condensed milk, chocolate, and sprinkles. Below, you will find all the ingredients and step-by-step recipe. Here, we share a few more words about the essential ingredients.
Ground cookies - we love using cookies for our pie or tart base. In this recipe, we used Plazma cookies. If you can't find them in your country, feel free to use graham cracker crumbs or other ground cookies.
Cocoa - use unsweetened cocoa powder or Dutch-process cocoa. Using sweetened cocoa will result in an overly sweet dessert.
Butter - use unsalted butter in the cookie base and the Brigadeiro mixture. Using your favorite butter, margarine, and other types of fat won't work.
Condensed milk - we need three cans (397g/14 oz) of condensed milk in this recipe. Choose sweetened condensed milk.
Chocolate - use your favorite semisweet chocolate in this recipe.
Sprinkles - thick chocolate sprinkles are the way to go. They will not only make a beautiful decoration on top, but they will add texture, too.
Storing
It's best to serve the Brigadeiro tart the next day. We can keep it on the kitchen counter for up to a day or store it in the fridge for up to a week. Make sure it's covered with clingfilm to prevent any unwanted aromas. Before serving, place the tart at room temperature for the chocolate to soften and become more creamy.
